VFW Post 6200 Honor Guard

- 5/17/2022

Honor Guard

The Post’s Honor Guard conducts rifle salutes and plays Taps at military funerals
throughout the region. We are consolidated with the Ovid American Legion Honor
Guard and conduct ceremonies most often at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in
Romulus.

For those that may not be aware, Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery was chosen to be New York’s very first State Veterans Cemetery. In addition to the National Veterans Cemetery system, many states have state veterans cemeteries. New York was one of the very few states that did not. But, as of this year, New York has a State Veterans Cemetery system, and we are very proud that Sampson is the first. The combined Ovid American Legion / VFW Honor Guard also participates in parades and ceremonies on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, and at other patriotic events throughout the year.

Anyone that’s interested in joining the Post 6200 Honor Guard, contact the Honor Guard Commander, Linda Ratsep, at loratsep@gmail.com. It’s very rewarding. We’d love to have you.
